July 9, 2005 meeting
The meeting of mapofnab group started at 3:30 pm in nab premise. Mr. Arun Mehta, Mr. Dipendra Manocha, Mr. Tarun Batra, Mr. Ankush Khetrapal, Mrs. Sreeja, Mr.Saurabh, Mr. Anubhav and Mr. Satveer were present in the meeting. The meeting started with the introduction of our guest teacher Mr. Ankush and Mr. Tarun. Then Mr. Tarun and Mr. Ankush started lecture on java programming with symbian OS. They explained why java should be used with symbian OS because of its plateform independent feature. Then they demonstrated the user interface of java and symbian OS IDE. They threw light on available features of Java and Symbian OS. After this brief introduction of Java and Symbian OS Mr. Ankush and Mr. Tarun started to write first sample Hello World program. They demonstrated the compilation and run process of this sample program. Then they demonstrated how to transfer program from desktop computer to mobile phone handset. After this process the program was played on the mobile phone handset with mobile speak and talks screen reader. After developing this first sample program the group started discussion on several mobile phone programming related topics like compatibility with available mobile phone handset, how can the program interface with available speech synthesizer to make it accessible, what topics are needed to study at this stage of mobile phone programming. Our guest teachers promised to provide desired study materials and tutorials in E-text format. It was also decided to continue mobile phone programming and Mr. Ankush and Mr. Tarun expressed their consent to come to next Saturday July 15 to continue mobile phone programming. All members were advised to study desired tutorials before next Saturday to take better understanding of mobile phone programming. Mr. Satveer proposed to develop daisy editor software to edit daisy books. It was felt that some feasibility study are needed on this software before starting to develop it. The groups discussed on the progress of BrailleFace and Lipi projects.
