June 18, 2005 meeting

The meeting of MapofNab group started at 3 pm in nab premise. Mr. Arun Mehta, Mr. Dipendra Manocha, Mr. Saurabh Malav and Mr. Satveer Singh were present in the meeting.

First of all, the group started discussion on how to standardize key combinations for several navigational and other shortcut commands using the combination of only six keys of braille keyboard. It was felt that all navigational and other shortcut commands should be issued by only six keys to avoid use of any extra keys. All members agreed with that the Braille face project should use the same standard code being used by several English Braille keyboard based system.

Then Mr. Satveer demonstrated BrailleFace project and shoed newly added feature like ability to type in hindi language, ability of typing in both English and hindi language. Then the group discussed on different coding related issues arised while working on this BrailleFace project. Then Mr. Saurabh demonstrated following newly features added to LIPI word processor. 1. Capability to speak half hindi character with beep or “aadha” string. Now this word processor has the feature to speak half hindi character either with beep sound or with “aadha” string. The user will have choice to choose any one option. 2. Speaking selected text 3. Speaking “kam” and “jyada” word while increasing or decreasing rate 4. Speaking character by character by moving with left, right arrow There are still some issues with reading character by character like whether it should speak character only without “matra” or it should speak character along with all assigned “matra”. It was suggested that on navigating character by character it should speak character along with all assigned “matra”.

Then all members discussed on various issues related to word processor like it takes two backspaces to delete half hindi character, adding matras with vowels. It was felt that this word processor should follow all rules as of manual typewriter in the same manner and as this word processor is using only one keystroke to write any half hindi character so it should use only one backspace key to delete half hindi character

At last all members discussed coding related problems arised during the development of both projects.
